Some of the opinions I have heard about these two helmet designs include:

[Tony Siragusa]Tony Siragusa, Baltimore Ravens' Defensive Tackle:
"I like [the Raven] one"

Gerry Sandusky, WBAL Radio & TV Sports:
"I like the bird better than the shield"

Art Sinclair, WCBM Radio Sports:
"I voted for the one with the Raven on it"

[Ace Ventura - logo model?!]Dan Rodricks, Baltimore Sun columnist
and host of TV's 'Rodricks for Breakfast':
"From a distance, the winged emblem looks like Ace Ventura's hairdo..." [Full Image]

Stan the Fan, WJFK Radio Sports-Talkshow Host:
"I'd like to see the shield without the wings"

Heard here and there:

"I like the shield, it's different than other NFL helmets..."

"The shield looks too much like a hockey logo..."

"Ok for a motorcycle, but not a football helmet..."
   [Harley Ravenson? -Norm]

"The shield logo looks like Arena Ball..."

My unsolicited commentary as a graphic designer is:

What started out as a fun office poll has turned out to be something bigger. When the Ravens' helmet logo was first revealed, there was much discussion as to who liked it and who did not, and why. The opinions were broad and some passionate. Since the recent news of the lawsuit, the issue has been revisited. I took the helmet with the logo in question and replaced it with one of the other Ravens' logos. The results around the water cooler have been interesting.

I like the shield logo on shirts, hats and stuff, but not so much on the helmet. The design is trying to do too many things at once. If you read it straight up it reads "RAVENS B" Shouldn't it read "BALTIMORE R"? I understand wanting to brand the helmet with some Baltimore mark to prevent the Colts fiasco, but there may be a better way.

For those who do not know about the Colts problem, when the team was moved to Indianapolis after decades here in Baltimore, the name and all the trademarked team images went as well. The city fought to maintain those rights, but lost.

The Orioles do not display any ties to Baltimore on their uniforms - home or away. Some feel that is due to the Orioles being marketed as a regional team, and not wanting to alienate the Washington dollars coming into the city. I feel that the "B" and the Maryland cross (from the state flag) on the Ravens' helmet shield emblem is there so in the unfortunate event of another team move, the helmet design would have to stay or be redesigned.

Many of us who have seen the second design like the look of that Raven. We feel it appears mean and fast, and has an appealing 90's football look.

Monitor the poll results to see which is the fan favorite!
